Windows 2003 Server Backup "Access Denied"

$

Our server crashed and while our IT dept is working to restore it, I have two Western Digital USB MyBook Backup Drives that have backups created with Win 2003 Backup/Restore Utility.  I connected the WD HDs to a PC running Win7 and although the OS sees the USB WD drive, when I click on it, it returns an ACCESS DENIED and will not let me see any data.  How do I get at the backups on these drives?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Windows 7 home addition

Installed windows 7 home addition but service pack 1 did not install. After trying to update Explorer to Explorer 11 I was told that I did not have service pack 1, My computer system properties says that it is not installed.  But when I went to the Microsoft Website and did as I was told to install it using windows update, It shows up as being installed by windows update but it is not really installed or it should show up in Systems properties, and Explorer 11 should install.

Should I wipe the Hard drive and do a re install? Something is not right.

Vista Clean Reinstall Update Problems

After SP2 loaded, then offered Net framework 4.0 or something like that, installed it. Then Microsoft/Windows update, updated itself. Windows update sat for over 2 hours searching for updates. So I decided to reinstall and take this step by step to see if I can get every update through Windows/Microsoft update.

Installed all of 2007 updates, installed 2008 updates up to March, then 2008 march updates, ( I do remember back in 2008 these updates causing a crash on restart, and the single update offered in April correcting it) It Crashed/ blue screen, start windows normally. Installed the single update listed for April, installed it, Installed updates by the years, except the frameworks updates I installed them separately. Installed all important/recommended updates, last of them dated April 2010. Then Installed important update; Microsoft visual C++ 2005 SP1. Still no SP1 listed. Only one more update listed as Important remaining; Malicious removal tool Oct 2015. Installed it and then SP1 was listed; Why would windows update list SP1 1.9mb dated 3/5/2015? Tried installing it, as usual, it claimed success after 5 seconds past with no restart, but did not install. After that updates listed KB955430, installed. then updates listed SP1 1.9mb 3/5/2015 again and kept offering it over and over. (note; KB955430, KB987237, KB949939 all installed VIA updates, none of them can be uninstalled.)

Can Vaguely remember if I had installed IE8 before SP1 was offered back then, or if there was a driver that needed updating before SP1 installed back in 2008. No devices need updating in device manager.  I know that IE8 was offered through updates, but not this time. I went ahead and manually installed IE8, because the AMD auto detect tool would not work with IE7, does not work with IE8 either.

I am stuck at this time and trying to figure out if I can solve this problem, and install SP1 VIA updates, rather than through Windows Download Center.

Ran the Windows update reset tool 50202 in normal mode, ran the readiness tool 947821, restarted into clean boot, still only list SP1 1.9mb

Ran the Windows update reset tool 50202 in aggressive mode, ran the readiness tool 947821, restarted into clean boot, still only list SP1 1.9mb.

Any help would greatly be appreciated!

Thank you.

Bitlocker error about bootable CD or DVD preventing use of encryption

$

Hello,

I am attempting to use BitLocker on my X61 Tablet ThinkPad but have run across an error message that is preventing me from initializing the BitLocker encryption. The message reads as follows: "Your system is not configured to use BitLocker Drive Encryption. If there is a bootable CD or DVD in your computer, remove it...if the problem persists, contact the computer manufacturer for BIOS upgrade instructions." I have run the BitLocker Drive Preparation Tool which has created its own boot drive (SSmile and that program tells me that all is in order.  Additionally, I have verified that I have a fully updated BIOS.

There is no bootable CD or DVD in the computer but there is what I assume to be Lenovo's Recovery software on a hidden and unalterable drive that appears in Disk Management. I cannot make changes to this drive; it is labeled only as"Healthy" and "EISA Configuration."

Is this recovery drive the culprit that is preventing BitLocker from working? And if so, can it be disabled or BitLocker tricked into functioning while it is still present?

Thanks for your help!

Is Internet Explorer 11 32-bit available for Windows 2008R2 64-bit?

$

We need internet explorer 11 32 bit version running under Windows 2008R2, which is a 64 bit based OS. This is because all or thin client based applications running under the browser on the local IIS Web server, are designed for the IE 32 bit browser only.

The only IE11 option available to download from Microsoft's site for Windows 2008R2 seems to be only 64-bit based.

I have read some posts that disabling the EPM option will enable 32 bit Tabs to work on IE11 64-bit browser, but then I've read contradicting information that EPM should be enabled for this, so this is not clear.

However, we would rather install a true 32-bit IE11 version instead, all the way 32-bit, not only for the tabs, to ensure our 32 bit browser based thin client apps will work well.

Where may I download an installer for IE11 32-bit for Windows 2008 R2?

Windows vista service pack 1 keeps installing

My computer crashed, so had hard drive reformated and re-loading Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit. Doing all the updates via Windows Update, I get to Service Pack 1. It installs successfully, but won't move onto Service pack 2. I have like 10 supposed successful installations of Service Pack 1. I even downloaded SP2 and of course it won't install because it says I have to install SP1 first. Read documentation, searched forums and didn't find an answer to this problem. I even downloaded "Mr Fixit" and this didn't help.

I'm somewhat technical, but not a pro. Can's figure this out. Can someone help or point me in the right direction? Thanks.

Network and Internet problems

My Win 7 PC says it cannot connect to "BlahBlah" (my home network). And when I try to connect to the internet using an open network - it still can't connect to the internet (although my Win 10 laptop can use this same open network and access the internet).  I have tried everything I could find - like ipconfig flush, reset v4 and v6, reset winsock, etc. - including fixes that I downloaded from Microsoft and another site for a winsock fix. I have reset the modem, router, etc. and I can't even open my router by typing that IP address into the browser bar. Any help would be appreciated...

Hi all I decided it was time to install Internet Explorer 9 but I am running Vista SP1 so I thought I'd update to SP2 also.

When I tried to update Vista SP1 to SP2 it has failed many times. I also tried using fixit and various other items but still no joy any help me please??

Updates are set to automatic tried several reboots no joy. When I also look at Windows Updates and click view installed updates nothing is there but there are loads when I View Update History.

This update fails all the time:

Vista SP2 Install fails - error # 0x80070490

$

Belatedly getting around to tyring to install Vista SP2 and the install fails.

I looked at the SP2 update - KB948465. The tooltip when I hover over it says: File version 6.0.6002.18005, created 3/31/2011 at 10:54pm.  Size is 348MB.

I looked at the error log file CBS.log.  Near the end, where it failed, it seemed that it was looking for a version of the SP2 update
with the version number 6.0.0.18005.

Could this be failing because the Update Installer is looking for a different version number (eg. 6.0.0 .... ) that the actual KB update
version number of 6.0.6002 .... ???

I have tried running the System Update Readiness Tool for Vista - KB947821, but that stalled out about 3/4 of the way through and never completed;  I had to finally reboot the system.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.  Unfortunately my tax prep software requires IE 8 or above.  I have IE 7.  IE 8 or 9 will not
install on VISTA without SP2 being installed.   SP2 will not install.  Checkmate ......

AKSFRIDGE.SYS Blue Screen Error

Sometimes when I want to (re)start my computer or after when computer shuts down because of power shortage, it ends up in a blue screen error.

It states:

"The problem seems to be caused by the following file: aksfridge.sys

Windows Update keeps installing Spk1 but it is not really installed. Until it installs I cant get the rest of my updates. I cant get on Microsoft site (or most any site) without upgrading IE and I cant upgrade IE until I have all the Spks installed. A viscious circle. Any help would be great.

I'm running Vista Business x86.

I've tried installing SP1 both from Windows Update and from the stand-alone installer. Both times it goes through to 100% on Stage 3 before stating that the SP couldn't be installed and backing out. The error message wasn't terribly helpful.

I've tried disabling my AV (ESET Smart Security) and other running software. No difference.

How do I start to trouble shoot this?
